Christian Singleness

QUESTION: Christian Singleness - How can Jesus Christ help me cope with Being Single?

ANSWER:

It’s not easy being single, considering the society we live in today. As we look around, we see our childhood friends showing off their engagement or wedding rings, and this leaves a constant reminder of our predicament and we are lonely. These maladies might even be stirred with constant questions from family members asking us when we’ll get around to marrying.

Jesus promised us quite a lot of things as singles and it is only appropriate for us to understand and draw hope from them.
  • We can live life to the fullest. John 10:10 says, “. . .I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

  • The Bible tells us to flee sexual relationship outside of marriage. In 1 Corinthians 6, we read, “Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, ‘The two will become one flesh.’ But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit. Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.”

  • Stay active in serving the Lord. As Paul said, singles have the benefit of “undivided devotion to the Lord” (1 Corinthians 7:35).

  • The Bible encourages us to grow in our relationship and longing to know God more. This makes the negative influence and effect of the world around us to lose its grip on us.

What do you think?
We have all sinned and deserve God’s judgment. God, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. Jesus, the creator and eternal Son of God, who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that He died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buried, and rose from the dead according to the Bible. If you truly believe and trust this in your heart, receiving Jesus alone as your Savior, declaring, "Jesus is Lord," you will be saved from judgment and spend eternity with God in heaven.

What is your response?
