Symptoms Of Borderline Personality Disorder

QUESTION: What are the symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder?

ANSWER:

Borderline Personality Disorder victims commonly show some symptoms at a young age, but more so through their teens and to their early twenties, at which time it is wholly developed.

Some of these symptoms include:
  • unstable emotions, including bouts of anger
  • impulsiveness
  • intense feelings of rejection and abandonment
They also battle emotions of:
  • Depressed feelings
  • eating disorders
  • drug/alcohol abuse
  • self-mutilation (cutting/burning)
  • feelings of emptiness
  • unstable relationships
  • thoughts of suicide or suicide attempts
A borderline may also have temporary periods of feeling suspicious of others without provocation (paranoia) with their family or friends. In treatment, these feelings are about their health care professional, thus sometimes hindering treatments. Often those with BPD view others as either good or bad with no room in between. Medications can sometimes be used to reduce some of these symptoms.

If you suffer from BPD or have a family member who does, be encouraged by the following words. We do not walk through health problems alone. “God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). And 2 Corinthians 4:16 says “That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day.”

God provides strength according to 2 Samuel 22:33: “God is my strong fortress; he has made my way safe.” Psalm 91:4 reads, “He will shield you with his wings. He will shelter you with his feathers. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.”

What do you think?
We have all sinned and deserve God’s judgment. God, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. Jesus, the creator and eternal Son of God, who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that He died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buried, and rose from the dead according to the Bible. If you truly believe and trust this in your heart, receiving Jesus alone as your Savior, declaring, "Jesus is Lord," you will be saved from judgment and spend eternity with God in heaven.

What is your response?
